Need for Pet Parents Needed

Need for temporary “pet parents” rises

Imagine coming into work every morning and finding a taped up box or dirty laundry basket full of newborn puppies or kittens. If they’re lucky, they’re reasonably healthy and crying for food. More often than not, they’re covered in fleas and barely alive. It’s an everyday reality for staff at our community’s animal shelters. Every year shelters throughout San Antonio are flooded with homeless, abandoned animals-many of them puppies and kittens. Because of San Antonio’s relatively mild winters, many shelters (including Animal Care Services) start seeing abandoned litters as early as January and February. This influx of animals taxes the resources at the shelter as staff and volunteers try to save as many pets as possible. Animal Care Services is in desperate need of temporary “pet parents” or fosters to take in pets who need a little time (and love) to become adoption ready. Interested residents can contact the ACS Foster Coordinator via the ACS Guardian Angel hotline at 207- 6669.
